HazMat Information and Guidelines

At ILA Local 1408, we prioritize the safety and well-being of our members and their work environment. Handling hazardous materials (HazMat) is an essential aspect of the longshore industry, and we ensure that our members are well-equipped with the necessary knowledge, training, and resources to manage these materials safely and responsibly.

Important Reminder

Hazmat expires in 3 years and you can't work on the docks with an expired HazMat certification.

Safety Guidelines & Procedures

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Members must wear appropriate PPE while handling hazardous materials, including gloves, safety goggles, protective clothing, and respirators.

Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)

Members must familiarize themselves with the MSDS for each hazardous material they handle, providing vital information about hazards and precautions.

Emergency Response

Members must be aware of emergency response procedures including evacuation plans, emergency contact numbers, and use of emergency response equipment.

Training & Certification

All members involved in handling hazardous materials must complete a HazMat training program and obtain certification, which must be renewed periodically.
